Parish Announcements and Reminders
Our 2012 Parish Pledge Drive
Thank you to all who turned in their 2012 stewardship pledge forms the last two Sundays! Your continued spirit of generosity is very much appreciated. Thank you for your ongoing support of our parish! The Church of the Good Shepherd makes a difference in so many people’s lives, and your financial contributions help to make that possible. If you have not yet returned your 2012 Parish Pledge Forms, please do so before the end of the month. You may put your pledge form in the collection plate on Sunday, or mail it to the parish office, with the notation “2012 Parish Pledge Form”. The vestry is in the process of formulating the 2012 budget, and needs to know what the pledge income will be. Thank you!
Healing Service Sunday
Sunday, December 4th, there will be a healing service as part of the 8AM &10AM Services. Following the sermon, those who wish to be prayed over regarding some need for personal healing (in whatever form healing is needed; emotional, spiritual, relational, physical, etc.), will be invited to come forward to receive prayer for healing, an anointing with blessed oil, and a laying on of hands by the priest. Please invite family and friends to the Sunday Services on December 4th, especially those who might most benefit from healing prayers. These formal healing services as part of the Sunday Services are held quarterly, but prayers for healing occur every Sunday at the side altar during Communion.
Pastor Dan Is Away
I will be on vacation beginning Monday, November 14th, and will be returning to the office on Wednesday, November 23rd. On Sunday November 20th, the Rev. Jack Haney will be presiding at the Sunday Services. If you have a parish or pastoral need which can’t wait for my return, please contact our Senior Warden (Chuck Soule H508-291-1697 & W508-947-0388) and he will help you to receive the information/services you need. Pastor Dan
ECW Christmas Fair
The Episcopal Church Women’s Christmas Fair will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, from 9 AM - 2 PM, and lunch will be served. We are looking for donations for our jewelry table, baked goods, used Christmas items, stuff for our children’s gift room, and anything that is new to make our baskets. We are also looking for new things for our raffle prizes. If you have anything you would like to donate, please contact Karen Clark at 508-763-5129.
Coffee Hour Hosts are Needed
We are in need of coffee hour hosts, after the 10AM Service. The sign-up list is on the small bulletin board in the Parish Hall, where the coffee is served during coffee hour. Coffee Hour Hosts are asked to arrive 20 minutes before the Service and help set-up, provide the goodies for coffee hour (including juice), and clean up the Parish Hall after coffee hour. You can sign-up with others to spread out the expense and the work! Thank you to all who have been coffee hour hosts in the past!!!
Prayer Group Meeting
The next prayer meeting of the Good Shepherd Prayer Group is on Thursday, December 1st, at Noon. Those who wish to have someone included in the parish prayer list, please contact Pat Probert (508-291-3364) or Pastor Dan (508-295-2840).
Staying Healthy During the Cold and Flu Season
Please help keep other members of your Good Shepherd family healthy when you are ill or have been in contact with others who are ill, by keeping the following in mind: 1) it is probably best not to come to church when you are in the contagious stages of an illness, 2) please do not drink from the cup if you are ill, 3) please do not dip the host into the cup when you are ill (this can be even more problematic), 4) consider extending the sign of peace with words and not with hugs and handshakes when you are ill or have been in contact with others who are ill, 5) consider using the hand sanitizers located at the entrances of the church as you enter the church and as you leave the church; as a way to help prevent the spread of infection and illness.
There will be a Parish Thanksgiving Service on Wednesday, November 23rd at 7PM. All are welcome to gather and together give thanks for the many blessings God has bestowed upon us, including our parish family. Thanksgiving Day can be very busy with many details to attend to; the Parish Thanksgiving Service is a good way to make sure that thanking God is part of our Thanksgiving celebration.
The Shepherd’s Table Thanksgiving Day Meal
On Thanksgiving Day there will be a Thanksgiving Meal served in the Parish Hall at 1PM. All are welcome to share in this meal, which is open to the public. Please let other know about this opportunity, especially those who may be alone or may be in need of a free meal. If you would like to contribute to the Thanksgiving Meal, please see Pat Probert (the Shepherd’s Table Coordinator).
CRN Thanksgiving Food Ingathering
It's time for CRN's Thanksgiving food ingathering and distribution to over 200 local families. Traditionally we have excelled at this collection. This year we are asked to donate NON-PERISHABLE food of any type. No fresh veggies, nor turkeys. Bring items from now until Sunday the 20th when they will be prepared for distribution. Place them in the food baskets at the back of the church marked: THANKSGIVING or CRN.
The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree Christmas Outreach starts next week. Please consider helping those families who are in need this Christmas. There's only 4 weeks until we wrap the children's gifts, no time to delay. If your family needs Christmas assistance this year, please see Pastor Dan and give him details of your family and their needs ASAP so they can be included. If you know of others (non-parishioners) who are in need this Christmas, please refer them to Turning Point.
Christmas Multiples Ingathering
The CHRISTMAS MULTIPLES ingathering has begun! Kim Houdlette created the post-its on the poster on the exit door at the back of the church. Please take a post-it and bring in the items and place them in the Christmas box at the back of the church, from now until December 18th. We will bag and distribute them on Sunday, December 18th. Save the date! Ask any parishioner for details.
Operation Christmas Child
It’s time again for our annual Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child” shoebox drive! To participate, fill a shoebox with toys, clothing, hygiene or food items; then wrap or decorate and attach a label to indicate the age/gender of the recipient. There is a suggested donation of $7 for shipping costs. It’s a lot of fun choosing gifts and small items for children around the world! Please return the shoebox to the church by Sunday, November 20th. For more information, please pick up a flier in the back of the church.
